This book is intended for primary schools where 'English' is begun in the first year (whether KG or Class 1). It provides a firm foundation for the main course beginning in the second year whatever course book is used. There is also a workbook.

Together these provide the following:

ORAL WORK

VOCABULARY: One hundred words have been selected as the most suitable for teaching at this level.

LANGUAGE STRUCTURE: Fourteen items are taught for presenting the content words mentioned above. They also provide a basis for the grammatical construction to be taught later.

READING

Some informal reading is provided for those who wish it. This is basically 'Look and Say' and will be largely incidental to oral work. In addition, there is an introduction to elementary phonics, the sounds most commonly associated with each single letter of the alphabet being presented and practised. For young children, it is important that the print size should be as large as possible, but should also vary.
